WIE Affinity Group of the Year Award - Past Recipients

2006

Section Affinity Group

  • IEEE New York WIE Affinity Group (US) 

    The WIE Affinity Group New York proposal submitted by Darlene Rivera and Alexandra Galiotta highlighted over 17 sponsored events the New York Affinity group conducted last year that included a diversity of  participants. These included co-sponsored student events, professional and technical talks and many outreach activities. They have worked with GOLD and PACE and have created awards to recognize outstanding contributions for women in engineering. This Affinity Group has done an outstanding job of publicizing their events and is predominant in the public eye and making the accomplishments of women more visible to the community. Their website is a model site for other IEEE WIE Affinity Groups to follow and is a wonderful resource for the community.

Student Branch Affinity Group

  • IEEE Universidad Tecnica Particular de Loja WIE Student Branch Affinity Group (Ecuador)
    This Student Branch WIE Affinity Group was selected for sponsoring over 16 events.  These included co-sponsored student events, the STAR program, professional and technical talks, outreach efforts, and collaboration with other IEEE Ecuador Section Affinity Groups. The Student Branch Affinity Group has done an outstanding job of publicizing their events and making the accomplishments of women more visible to the community.

2005

Section Affinity Group

  • IEEE Delhi WIE Affinity Group (India) 
    This Affinity Group (AG) was selected because of the breadth of their activities and the high degree of collaboration between the Section AG, the Student Branch AG and the Section itself.   They had eleven meetings in all including three technical, one educational, five professional, and two administrative. They have a strong focus on highlighting women in engineering in their outreach to secondary schools, to the Student Branches, to the Section, and in the programs for their members. They formed three new Student Branch WIE Affinity Groups.

Student Branch Affinity Group

  • IEEE Jamia Milia Islamia WIE Student Branch Affinity Group (India)
    This Student Branch WIE Affinity Group was selected due to the breadth of its activities, communications with its members, and the degree of its collaboration with the Section WIE AG and the Delhi Section.  Their programs included network  security, distributed substation automation implementation, speech & image processing, entrepreneurship, intellectual property rights, self defense, leadership, socio-economic status of women, soft skills and career counseling sessions, and several industrial visits.

Special Outstanding Project Award

  • Instituto Technologico de Veracruz (Mexico)
    This WIE Student Branch Affinity Group was awarded for their “Feria de Empresas” or “Fair of Companies”.  This event brought 20 companies to the campus to give technical and professional presentations, host exhibits with equipment and personnel, and interact with the students.  The event drew over 400 attendees each day of the fair and received praise from the participating companies.
