WIE Volunteer Opportunities
Volunteers are an essential part of the IEEE organization. IEEE Women in Engineering (WIE) offers many ways to get involved.
Getting Started
If you are interested in volunteering with IEEE Women in Engineering (WIE), the best place to get started is with your local WIE Affinity Group. Affinity Groups provide an opportunity for members to participate in local activities and network. Opportunities include coordinating events, mentoring, or serving as an officer. Contact your local Affinity Group to discuss volunteer opportunities.
If there is no Affinity Group in your area, you can start one in your Section or Student Branch by recruiting six other IEEE Members willing to be part of the Affinity Group and submitting a petition.

IEEE Student-Teacher and Research Engineer/Scientist (STAR) Program
STAR was developed to address the growing concern that girls are discouraged from careers in mathematics, science, and engineering at a young age. This educational outreach program promotes involvement of IEEE members with local junior high and high schools to inspire a positive image of engineering careers. Through a one-to-one interaction of IEEE volunteers with a Teacher-Student Team, the goal of STAR is to create a technical support network for teachers and a mentoring program for the students. Serving on the Women in Engineering Committee
If you are interested in serving on the Women in Engineering Committee (WIEC), the WIEC is appointed by the IEEE Board of Directors. IEEE's nominations and appointments process seeks to identify the best qualified persons within the Committee's scope. You can find further information, including a nomination form, on the Nomination and Appointment web page.
