WEARING IT OUT
By 2007, more than 60 percent of the European Union and U.S.
population aged 15 to 50 will carry or wear a wireless computing
and communications device at least six hours a day, and by 2010,
more than 75 percent will do so. Always-on, wearable, wireless
computing and communications devices will become a dominant channel
for retailers and service providers. The widespread adoption of
such devices will reshape multiple industries. Read Gartner's Take
on the Wireless, Wearable World

20 LEADERS IN THE FIELD COVER MULTIMEDIA
TECHNOLOGY
"Multimedia Technology For Applications" presents the latest
advances in signal processing, communications and networking,
computer databases, and circuits and systems relating to multimedia
technology and applications. Edited by Bing J. Sheu and Mohammed
Ismail, this volume presents interdisciplinary coverage of today's
multimedia technology. This is the collected work of more than 20
leaders in the field. shop.ieee.org/store/product.asp?prodno=PC5645

THE BIRTH AND EVOLUTION OF THE MICROELECTRONICS
INDUSTRY
The Solid-State Circuits Digital Archive 2000 is a record of the
birth and evolution of the microelectronics industry. It documents
virtually every major advance in the history of solid-state circuit
design. All articles in this collection are in pdf format. Included
are 35 years of material from the Journal of Solid-State Circuits.
Also included are the papers from the International Solid-State
Circuits Conference dating back to 1955. Available in DVD only,
this archive is viewed through a browser interface with a new
master index. The disc also enables Boolean searching and sorting
by user preference. shop.ieee.org/store/product.asp?prodno=JD3755

IEEE SPECTRUM SPECIAL FEATURE: "ASTEROID
MINING"
A fledgling group of researchers believes that a manned mission to
mine asteroids is not only possible but also probable. Because of
the negligible gravity of near Earth objects (NEOs), sending a
probe to reach one takes less energy than a visit to any other
celestial body, including the moon. This type of mission could also
prove quite lucrative for its organizers. In fact, a particularly
mineral rich Type C asteroid, with platinum medal, iron, nickel and
cobalt deposits, could have a monetary value of over $20 trillion
dollars. For the complete special report from IEEE Spectrum, visit

6.
NEW RELEASE ON RADIO FREQUENCY INTEGRATED
CIRCUITS
Sponsored by the IEEE Electron Devices Society, 2001 Symposium on
Radio Frequency Integrated Circuits (RFIC) covers topics ranging
from wireless transceivers to system architecture to
communications. Details address broadband systems, optical
communications, integrated modules and microwave technology. Learn
more at shop.ieee.org/store/product.asp?prodno=CH37173

18 TOP DESIGNERS IN LOW-POWER CIRCUITS
The Solid-State Circuits Technology Workshop on Low Power Circuits
meets 11-12 October in the Washington DC area. 18 top designers
will discuss their integrated circuit solutions to the rapidly
increasing demand for small, handheld electronic devices. Moore's
law has far outpaced increases in battery energy densities,
requiring fundamental changes to transistor-level circuit structure
and process technology. System on a Chip designs require low-power
analog, RF, and digital VLSI circuits. The challenge of designing
low-power circuits that meet speed, accuracy, and noise
requirements is on the agenda for this workshop. Register to attend

CLASSIC PAPERS UNDER ONE COVER
"Circuits for Wireless Communications Selected Readings" edited by
S. Tantaratana, B. Srisuchinwong, and W. Surakampontorn compiles in
one volume the most current and classic papers on circuits for
wireless communications. This volume covers wireless communications
as one of the fastest growing areas of communications technology.

SURVIVING INFORMATION BOMBARDMENT
Cell phones, pagers, e-mail, voice mail, meetings, teleconferences,
seminars, briefings, proposals... If you're having a hard time
sifting through the information deluge and focusing on what's
important, you're not alone. Todd Yuzuriha offers some tips for
climbing out from under the rubble--and staying on top. From
IEEE-USA Today's Engineer:

10. TECHNOLOGY IN BASEBALL
U.S. Major League Baseball (MLB) is entering the digital age by
embracing technologies that promise to speed up contests and help
teams prepare for their opponents. While some purists argue certain
technologies could damage the human element, others insist the
benefits are worth it. These technologies are spreading to
professional baseball leagues worldwide, particularly in Japan. For

11. INTEGRATED CIRCUIT ANALYSIS, DESIGN AND
APPLICATIONS IN NEW VOLUME
Written for engineers and students, "Analysis and Design of Analog
Integrated Circuits" provides a detailed exploration of IC
analysis, design, and applications. This volume is written by
experts Paul R. Gray, Stephen H. Lewis, Robert G. Meyer, and Paul
J. Hurst. The new updated edition offers a unified coverage of
bipolar and MOS IC techniques and includes new and expanded
sections on CMOS circuits, SPICE program, differential amplifiers
and feedback, feedback circuit analysis, and two-stage MOs op-amp
compensation. Buy this title through IEEE Fatbrain at www.ieee.org/ieeefatbrain
