1. NEW IET JOURNALS FEATURED IN IEEE XPLORE DIGITAL LIBRARY
IET has released two new journals now available through the IEEE Xplore Digital Library titled IET Synthetic Biology and IET Renewable Power Generation. IEE Proceedings Vision and Image and Signal Processing have been split into IET Computer Vision, IET Image Processing, IET Signal Processing, IET Synthetic Biology, and IET Renewable Power Generation. IEE Proceedings Vision, Image and Signal Processing has likewise been split into IET Computer Vision and IET Image Processing/IET Signal Processing. To access the journals, visit: www.ieee.org/ieeeexplore

2. MARKETING YOUR COLLECTION: BEST PRACTICES SHOP AND SWAP
In conjunction with the Association of College & Research Libraries (ACRL) meeting in Baltimore this month, IEEE is organizing a shop and swap workshop for e-resources librarians to share marketing best practices. This event is intended to be both fun and informational. As a bonus, it is planned as a cocktail and hors d’oeuvres hour preceding the conference event at the Baltimore Aquarium on Saturday, 31 March. If you are going to ACRL, mark your calendar for 6:00pm-7:30pm EST at the Sheraton Inner Harbor. For more information, email Judy Brady at j.brady@ieee.org

3. CANADA'S STRUGGLE TO LOWER GREENHOUSE GAS EMISSIONS: "IEEE SPECTRUM REPORTS"
In an article titled "Ontario Quits Coal" featured in the March issue of the "IEEE Spectrum" magazine (v. 44, n. 3) author Willie D. Jones explores the struggles that Canada is facing with meeting regulations set by the Kyoto Protocol. The Protocol calls for a cut in greenhouse emissions to levels below what emissions were in 1990, yet Canada's emissions are souring at a rate nearly 27 percent higher. One of the reasons for the high rate is that in some regions, such as Ontario, residents have not historically had to worry about energy because electricity was both readily available and relatively low in price. 5. SIGN UP FOR IEEE STANDARDS ALERTS VIA EMAIL OR RSS
IEEE Xplore now features opt-in standards alerts to keep you up-to-date on standards revisions available through email or RSS. This free service has recently been expanded to enable any IEEE Xplore user to be notified whenever a new standard or draft is published or a standard is revised. Users have the option to sign up for standards alerts based on industry or version number. To sign up, visit: ieeexplore.ieee.org/xpl/tocalerts_signup.jsp

6. ADD DRAFT STANDARDS ACCESS TO YOUR IEL SUBSCRIPTION
Draft standards access is now an available addition to an IEEE/IET Electronic Library (IEL) subscription. An IEEE Draft Standards subscription enables you to access of a developing standard before it is published to help facilitate early compliance and implementation on the standard. Delivered via IEEE Xplore, draft standards access enables your researchers to have an early understanding of the requirements and philosophy of standards under development and get advanced insight into technical solutions and practices being proposed. For more information, contact your IEEE Account Manager: www.ieee.org/web/publications/subscriptions/info/contactus.html

7. PATENT TROLL: "IEEE SPECTRUM" EXPLORES
In an article titled "Hooray for the Patent Troll!" featured in the latest issue of the "IEEE Spectrum" magazine (v. 44, no. 3) the increasingly popular term "Patent Troll" is explained and explored. Although the term has no clear definition, it is used to call any patent owner cast in a negative light, such as a corporation that buys a patent with no intention of developing products relating to those patents. With a negative connotation, the term can do tremendous hard by deterring companies from developing ideas outside of their core areas.
