The Importance of Recognizing the Efforts of Your Volunteers

IEEE volunteers give up their personal time to participate in activities, so it is important to thank them for that sacrifice and recognize them for their efforts. You can thank them personally, with a handwritten note or email, acknowledging specific contributions.  They can also be publicly recognized, as appropriate, at a Section event in front of their peers.

How can you recognize an individual's volunteer contribution?

Members (potential volunteers) need to be motivated. How can you motivate them?

  • Invite them to attend an awards program where volunteers are recognized for their efforts

  • Publicize the accomplishments of the IEEE unit (Section, Chapter, Affinity Group)

    • Achieved goals (for example: Membership elevation and promotions)

    • Successful planned activities
