Platinum Friend of IEEE Member and Geographic Activities (MGA) Award

To recognize companies/organizations which have provided generous and sustained support to the IEEE and its members.  This award is established as a means to garner publicity and recognition of IEEE; to influence the work environment of or members in a positive way.  The Platinum Friend award is a one time industry award and is not presented for a singular event.

Eligibility

The only requirement is to have won a Supporting or Sustaining Friend Award at least once during the three years being considered.

Selection and Award Instrument
  • one (1) Platinum Friend of IEEE Member and Geographic Activities (MGA) Award will be presented every three (3) years;
  • all recipients of the Supporting or Sustaining Friend Award within the previous three (3) years will be considered by the MGA Awards and Recognition Committee (ARC);
    • i.e., this award was first presented in 2008, based upon recipients during the years 2005, 2006, and 2007
    • the next year this award will be presented is 2011, based upon recipients during the years 2008, 2009, and 2010
  • MGA ARC will determine the recipient based on:
    • atmosphere which encourages volunteerism;
    • availability of corporate space to conduct IEEE meetings;
    • encouragement to become an IEEE member;
    • number of IEEE activities sponsored by the company in the last 3 years;
    • free or discounted permission of company resources;
  • during the selection process, nominators of previous recipients may be asked to provide further information about the nominees;
  • the recipient selection of the MGA ARC will be approved by the MGA Board at the June MGA Board Meeting of the award year;
  • nominees and recipient will be notified in July;
  • recipient will receive a specially engraved crystal/marble sculpture and a mounted certificate emphasizing the scope of MGA and bearing the signature of the IEEE Vice President-MGA;
  • the award will be presented by the Vice President-MGA (or his delegate) at an industry related venue or at an appropriate Sections Congress function, with consent from the Sections Congress Steering Committee.
