Top Patenting Organizations Rely on IEEE Research

Today's corporations continue to deliver new patented technologies at an ever-increasing pace, and by far the most-cited publisher in new patents is IEEE, according to recent studies by 1790 Analytics LLC.

The most recent report examines patents filed with the U.S. Patent Office in 2007 by the year's 25 top-patenting organizations. The report revealed that IEEE journals and conference proceedings received more than 101,000 patent citations—nearly 4 times the number of citations of any other publisher:

The current study shows that referencing to IEEE papers in patents has increased 294% in the last decade, and that patents which reference the IEEE are in turn cited more often by subsequent patents than those that do not reference IEEE.
