IEEE Technical Activities (IEEE-TA) is a major component of IEEE that includes all programs of the 45 IEEE Societies and Technical Councils as well as programs of the Technical Activities Board (TAB) and the Technical Activities Department (TAD).

This page contains an overview of the IEEE Technical Activities Board (TAB) and its related committees. The board as well as each committee play a vital role in the continued success of IEEE Technical Activities.

For detailed information regarding IEEE Technical Activities governance, policies, and committee reporting structure, please refer to the IEEE Technical Activities Board (TAB) Operations Manual (PDF, 1.9 MB).

IEEE Technical Activities Board (TAB)

The IEEE Technical Activities Board (TAB) is the governing body of IEEE Technical Activities and is the largest of six major boards within IEEE. As delegated by the IEEE Board of Directors, TAB establishes operational procedures assisting the management and operation of the IEEE Societies and Technical Councils, while supporting these technical communities in developing and delivering timely intellectual property products and conferences on current or emerging technologies.

Through these activities, TAB directs the advancement of the theory and practice of electrical, electronics, communications, computer engineering, computer science, the allied branches of engineering, and the related arts and sciences and technologies and their application for the benefit of IEEE members worldwide, as well as for the general public.

Technical Activities Core Purpose (Mission)
Inspire, Foster, and Empower Technology-Centric Worldwide Communities

Technical Activities Big Goal (Vision)
IEEE Technical Activities worldwide communities:

  • develop a volunteer-led environment where technical thought leaders converge and create communities for people working in the fields (Connections);
  • solicit, refine, and disseminate quality technical information (Content/Curation);
  • organize technical gatherings to foster innovation and interchange (Competency/Coverage);
  • nurture and promote innovative technical ideas and new technical fields (Coverage).

IEEE members can view more information regarding Technical Activities' Mission and Vision (IEEE Account required). (PDF, 2 MB)

Resources for Technical Activities Board and Committee volunteers

Technical Activities has initiated a pilot project to explore new approaches for improving the effectiveness of, and ability to find, information related to TAB and TAB committee activities. As part of this project, many of the resources and information provided to support society, technical council, and technical community volunteers have been moved to the IEEE Technical Activities Operations Beta Site. Volunteers and staff should use the IEEE Technical Activities Operations Beta Site as the primary resource for TAB-related information such as agendas, minutes, and reference materials.
