IEEE Accomplishments

  • As SMCS VP (Technical Activities) and VP (Long Range Planning and Finance), I was instrumental in the establishment of 10 SMCS Chapters in China, Hong Kong, South Korea and Northern Ireland.
  • As President of the IEEE Systems, Man, and Cybernetics Society, I led the Society in achieving the largest membership gain in 2008 among all IEEE societies.
  • As General Co-Chair and Co-Founder of the International Conference on Machine Learning and Cybernetics (since 2002) and the International Conference on Wavelet Analysis and Pattern Recognition (since 2007), I launched two successful IEEE conferences held annually in China.
  • As SMCS VP (Technical Activities), I initiated technical committees on Machine Learning, Computational Intelligence, Intelligent Internet Systems, Computational Life Science and Pattern Recognition.
  • As President of the IEEE Systems, Man, and Cybernetics Society, I led the campaign to establish nine SMC Student Branch Chapters (China, Hong Kong and Taiwan).
  • As President of the IEEE Systems, Man, and Cybernetics Society, I initiated the SMCS GOLD (Graduates of the Last Decade) Program.

Statement – In spite of challenges caused by the worldwide recession and the decline of society membership, Division X membership remains relatively stable. But many of our members are being negatively impacted on the job and on their income. IEEE must recognize member difficulties and help to improve their conditions. Severe competition in conferences and publications, and the global demand for better technology and environment must also be addressed.

As Division X Delegate/Director, I pledge to promote collaboration between our societies and councils to:

  • Maintain our world leadership in the technical fields represented by Division X
  • Improve IEEE efficiencies that control costs and dues
  • Develop effective programs for recruitment and retention of student and GOLD (Graduates of the Last Decade) membership
  • Explore, nurture and champion emerging technologies
  • Implement mechanisms to deal with rapidly growing problems that threaten the quality of our conferences and publications
  • Maximize sharing of “Best Practices” for member benefits

I shall appreciate your support and your vote.
