The voting membership of the IEEE elects annually officers that serve on the top-tier IEEE governing bodies.

New Election Deadlines

The IEEE Board of Directors approved several deadline changes related to the annual election, effective with the 2008 IEEE Annual Election.  These changes move up most of the annual election deadlines, but not all, by one month as follows:

1 August

  • IEEE annual election ballots are mailed to all voting members
  • Electronic access of the ballot will be live

1 October

  • All ballots must be received by the election vendor at 12:00 noon Central Daylight Time USA (17:00 GMT)

13 October

  • Last day for Tellers Committee to announce vote tally to IEEE Board of Directors
  • Unofficial results reported

  16 November

  • IEEE Board of Directors acts to accept report of Tellers Committee
  • IEEE Annual Election results are made official

All eligible voting members will receive a paper ballot and postage paid reply envelope in their ballot package via first class mail.  The ballot will include electronic access and return information.

The annual election candidate biography booklet will be mailed to members who voted by paper in last year’s election. New members, and those elevated to Member or Graduate Student Member grades on or before 30 June 2008, will be eligible to vote for the first time.

Members who transmitted their ballot electronically, or failed to vote in last year’s election, will not receive the candidate biography booklet in the mail.
