Candidate Nomination Process

President-Elect: IEEE Board of Directors selects the candidates for the office of President-Elect based on recommendations from the IEEE Nominations and Appointments Committee (N&A) and nominations from the floor at its November meeting. Region Delegate-Elect/Director-Elect: Regional nominating committees submit names of candidates for the offices of Regional Delegate-Elect/Director-Elect, as applicable. Division Delegate-Elect/Director-Elect: Divisional nominating committees submit names of candidates for the offices of Divisional Delegate-Elect/Director-Elect, as applicable. Standards Association: Standards Association submits candidates for the offices of Standards Association Board of Governors, President-Elect, and Members-at-Large, as applicable. Technical Activities: Technical Activities submits candidates for the office of Technical Activities, Vice President-Elect. IEEE-USA: IEEE-USA submits candidates for the offices of IEEE-USA President-Elect and IEEE-USA Member-at-Large. All slate of candidates must be received by the IEEE Board of Directors on 15 March of the year of the election. On 1 May, the Board of Directors submits to the voting membership a list of nominees to be elected by voting members for the coming term. |
Candidate Petition Process

Members who are not nominated but who want to run for office may do so by submitting a draft petition to the Board of Directors, to be received at IEEE Headquarters by 12:00 noon EDT USA (16:00 GMT) on 15 May of the year of the election. To be eligible for placement on the ballot, such candidates must submit petitions accompanied by the necessary number of valid voting members' signatures received by 12:00 noon EDT USA (16:00 GMT) on the Friday preceding 15 June of the year of the election, and meet other requirements as well. To calculate required signatures: For all positions where the electorate is less than 30,000 voting members, signatures shall be required from 2% of the eligible voters. For all positions where the electorate is more then 30,000 voting members, 600 signatures of eligible voters plus 1% of the difference between the number of eligible voters and 30,000 shall be required. The previous year's IEEE Annual Statistics as of 31 December is used to determine the count of eligible voters for a specific election category. |
