In 2002, the IEEE Communications Society (ComSoc) celebrated its 50th Anniversary. The 50th Anniversary program highlighted IEEE ComSoc’s role as the world’s leading venue for technical presentation and debate in the field of communications. The year-long schedule of events included a grand reunion and a special issue of IEEE Communications Magazine. In conjunction with these activities, the IEEE History Center explored--through archival research and oral history interviewing of top contributors to the past 50 years of communications industry, communications engineering, and communications research--the history of ComSoc and its place in the evolution of its technical areas and professions of interest. |
