Edythe Baker Interview (August 2, 1991)

This interview is part of the Rad Lab Collection.

Edythe Baker served as Lee DuBridge's assistant from 1940 to 1946. In September 1946, she accompanied DuBridge to Pasadena, California to continue as his secretary when he assumed the presidency of the California Insititute of Technology.

She remembers Rad Lab as a harmonious place to work and DuBridge as a model employer. She described him as friendly, accessible and even-tempered. While at Radiation Lab her duties included setting up appointments, handling DuBridge's correspondence, and supervising the work of three other secretaries in the director's office. The war had inspired a high level of enthusiasm that encouraged cooperation and minimized competitiveness among the clerical staff.
