Q. What is the purpose of the IEEE New Initiatives Program? A. The new initiative program is designed to identify potential new and/or different products, programs or services that will provide significant benefit to IEEE members, customers, the technical community, and/or the public, or which could have lasting importance to IEEE and must demonstrate a clear benefit to IEEE. Q. What is the submission deadline for a new initiative or seed grant proposal? A. A new initiative or a seed grant proposal may be submitted any time in the year. Q. Who can submit a new initiative and a seed grant proposal? A. Any IEEE member, volunteer or IEEE organizational unit can submit a proposal. IEEE staff groups require a volunteer as a co-sponsor. Q. What is the minimum funding request for a new initiative and a seed grant? A. The minimum request for the New Initiative Process (NIP) is US$100,000 for the first year of funding. The maximum request for the Seed Grant Process (SGP) is US$25,000 for a limited duration – generally less than one year. Q. What is the timeline for the New Initiative Process (NIP)? A. Preliminary proposals (Phase 1) can be submitted at any time by completing the Phase 1 section of the IEEE New Initiatives Proposal Form (DOC, 229 KB) and e-mailing it to newinitiatives@ieee.org. The form requires basic information such as a project description and outcomes, initiative leader, volunteer champion, costs, timetable, and other information required for evaluation. Learn more about the New Inititaive Process and timeline. Q. When would I use the Seed Grant Process (SGP)? A. The Seed Grant Process is designed for potentially small scale and/or high risk proposals where relatively small (up to US$25,000) amounts of funding are required to get started. Also, an SGP proposal may be used as precursor demonstration for a larger New Initiative submission. Learn more about the Seed Grant Process. Q. What is the timeline for the Seed Grant Process (SGP)? A. The
SGP utilizes a short evaluation and approval process
through electronic submission of the IEEE Seed Grant Proposal
Form (DOC, 69 KB) The target
