History/Background

  • The 2005 IEEE Non-Renewing Higher Grade Member Study is an annual project conducted by the IEEE Research and Planning area and IEEE Membership area on non-renewing IEEE Higher Grade members.
  • The research helps identify the profile of the non-renewing member, identifies reasons for dropping membership, and suggests improvements in products and services and possible strategies for membership growth and retention.
  • A new component of the 2005 project was an exploration of how non-renewing members balance value and price.

Participants

  • The 2005 project gathered data on Higher Grade Members who did not renew their 2005 IEEE membership.
  • Data collection began in June 2005 when 35,005 nonrenewing members were invited to participate in a web survey.
  • 6,676 former members responded.
  • Not counting the invitations that were returned as undeliverable, this represents a response rate of 21%.
  • The full report contains more information about the sample.
