IEEE Young Professionals Study: 2005

IEEE engaged in a multi-phase research project to understand how young technology professionals work—including how they communicate, access, and use information and other resources—and the issues and problems they face in their jobs.

History/Background

  • The research includes this study based on electronic bulletin board and traditional focus groups conducted by The Wedewer Group and an ethnography study conducted by researchers at the University of Tennessee.
  • The study covers technology used at work, the concept of the paperless office, working with electronic documents, working on projects, working in global teams, searching for information, and accessing and evaluating the reliability of information.
  • The study discusses the implications of the results for IEEE.

Participants

  • This study contains information from young technology professionals in the global work force and less than 35 years old.
  • The information comes from 23 IEEE members and 17 non-members who participated in the online bulletin board focus groups, as well as five IEEE GOLD (Graduates of the Last Decade) members who participated in the traditional focus group.
