Section 7 - Professional Activities (Part A - IEEE Policies)

 

7.9   Matters of Ethical Principle

  1. The Executive Committee is empowered by the Board of Directors to enter an amicus curiae brief in any court in the U.S.A. or in cooperation with cognizant national societies in other countries where a member of the profession is involved as a consequence of his taking a position on a matter of ethical principle.

  2. The Executive Committee is empowered to publicize actions described in paragraph A in any fashion deemed suitable and appropriate.

  3. It is IEEE policy that changes to the IEEE Code of Ethics will be made only after the following conditions are met:

    1. Proposed changes shall have been published in THE INSTITUTE at least three months in advance of final consideration by the Board of Directors, with a request for comment, and

    2. All IEEE Major Boards shall have the opportunity to discuss proposed changes prior to final action by the Board of Directors, and

    3. A two-thirds affirmative vote shall be required by the Board of Directors for changes to be made.
