IEEE EAB representatives met with faculty members from The University of West Indies in Trinidad in March to review their engineering programs and to discuss the possibility of forming a regional accrediting body.

IEEE EAB provided program evaluator training in September for 43 faculty members from The University of West Indies, government officials from Trinidad and Tobago, and government and education agency officials from English-speaking Caribbean nations. The workshop was followed by a meeting of 16 key staff from UWI and Caribbean nation delegates from Trinidad & Tobago, Jamaica, Guyana, Barbados, and Belize to discuss accreditation and plan a Caribbean-wide workshop focusing on creating an engineering accrediting body for the Caribbean.

 Caribbean Update

2008

IEEE EAB hosted a workshop entitled “ An Engineering Accrediting Body for the Caribbean with the help of key faculty members from The University of the West Indies. 27 people from seven (7) English-speaking countries in the Caribbean participated, representing leaders of government accrediting agencies, licensing bodies, universities, and professional associations. The Caribbean Accreditation Council for Engineering and Technology (CACET) was formed and a joint declaration was signed establishing the Council as part of the Caribbean Community (CARICOM). IEEE EAB will participate with CACET and provide assistance as needed. View presentations from the workshop

IEEE EAB and the Steering Committee of CACET are scheduled to meet with CARICOM on 20-21 October 2008 in Georgetown, Guyana. The purpose of this meeting is to provide CARICOM with an update on CACET, get approval to proceed with CACET, and discuss future plans for the Caribbean Accrediting body.

2009 plans include two meetings to discuss details on moving forward with CACET and getting the accrediting body operational.
