Accreditation - Engineering Technology Program Evaluator Qualifications

Committee on Technology Accreditation Activities
for Technology Accreditation Commission (TAC) of ABET, Inc.

IEEE Program Evaluator Applicants must meet the ABET Requirements, (both the ABET Minimum Qualifications and Competency Model whic appear on ABET's website) and the IEEE Qualifications below:

A. Interest in Engineering Technology education in the United States.
B. Member, Senior Member, or Fellow of the IEEE.
C. Formal education and recognized distinction in the practice of their specialty as follows:

1. Candidates from academe will normally have:
a. Formal education with Master's degree in Engineering, Engineering Technology, or closely related field, and
b. Substantial experience with accredited engineering technology programs.

2. Candidates from other than academe will normally have:
a. Formal education with Bachelors degree in Engineering, Engineering Technology, or closely related field, and
b. Substantial experience with employment opportunities for graduates from accredited engineering technology programs.

E. Has substantial experience in any of the disciplines assigned to IEEE.

F. Possesses analytical ability, communication skills, and personal maturity commensurate with the requirements of the ABET Program Evaluator Position Description.

G. Indicates in writing a willingness to participate in a training and mentoring program, to accept a five-year appointment, and to serve on at least one campus visit each year and conduct program evaluations in accordance with TAC of ABET and IEEE requirements, including the ABET COde of Conduct and Conflict of Interest Policy and the IEEE Code of Ethics.

H. Provides current biographical data on an annual basis.

I. Has access to e-mail and the Internet.

The accreditation disciplines for which the IEEE/Committee on Technology Accreditation Activities (CTAA) is responsible are:

  • CET -- Computer Engineering Technology
  • EET -- Electrical-Electronic(s) Engineering Technology
  • EMET-- Electro-Mechanical Engineering Technology
  • IET -- Information Engineering Technology
  • LET -- Laser-optics Engineering Technology
  • SET -- Software Engineering Technology
  • TET -- Telecommunications Engineering Technology

Amendments must be approved as specified in the CTAA Charter.
