Below are some Frequently Asked Questions and Answers to assit you in offering IEEE CEUs at your event.  If you still have questions please send your questions to eab-ceuadmin@ieee.org

Q:  What is a CEU?

A:  The CEU is a currency that measures a person's participation in a formal, non-credit continuing education program, such as a workshop, seminar, tutorial, or self-study course.

Q:  Can CEUs be converted into PDHs?

A:   Yes, CEUs can be readily translated into PDHs (1 CEU = 10 PDHs) .

Q:  What is the difference between CEUs and PDHs?

A: The National Council of Examiners for Engineering and Surveying (NCEES) prepared a manual entitled "Continuing Professional Competency Guidelines" that "provides guidelines for the jurisdictions and territories that have or are planning to have continuing professional competency requirements for relicensing." In this document, the terms professional development hour (PDH) and Continuing Education Unit (CEU) are defined. See below for these definitions. Refer to NCEES' "Continuing Professional Competency Guidelines" for further information on PDH and CEU requirements and criteria. Also, check with individual jurisdictions and territories for their specific requirements.

PDH - A contact hour (nominal) of instruction or presentation. The common denominator for other units of credit.

CEU - Unit of credit customarily used for continuing education courses. One continuing education unit equals 10 hours of class in approved continuing education course.

Q:  What guideline and criteria does IEEE follow for administering CEUs?

A:  IEEE is an Authorized Provider of CEUs through The International Association of Continuing Education and Training (IACET), and has adopted IACET guidelines and criteria for all its continuing professional development programs.

Q:  Are the CEUs given by IEEE recognized by New York State Board and Florida State Board?

A:  Since IEEE is an authorized provider through IACET, the New York State Board excepts IEEE CEUs.  IEEE is an authorized provider for the Florida State Board, our provider # is EXP00015.

Q:  How can I find out what my states continuing education requirements for license renewal are?

Q:  How can I find out the contact information for the licensing boards in the United States and its territories?

A:  To find out your states licensing boards contact information please refer to http://www.ncees.org/licensure/licensing_boards/

Q:  How can course organizers download the current CEU application form?

A:  The course organizers can download the proper forms needed to offer CEUs from the left-hand menu on this page under Application and Forms .  

Q:  What forms should be completed on the day of the course?

A:  The forms that needs to be completed the day of the course are the Individual CEU Tracking form and a CEU Evaluation Form (from each participant).  The Organizer can download the proper forms needed  for tracking CEUs from the left-hand menu on this page under Application and Forms. .

Q:  After the course is completed what do I need to submit to the CEU Administrator?  

A:  After your course is completed, send us complete contact information for each participant this can be in Word format or in a spreadsheet.  Email address information is mandatory.  Participants will be sent email with information detailing the CEUs they have earned, as well as a printable PowerPoint certificate.

Q: After completion of the course, how soon are the CEU certificates sent to the participants, and how are they transmitted?

A:  CEU certificates are emailed to the particiapants usually within 5 to 7 business days ater the course infomation is received by the CEU Administrator.  

Q:  How do course participants apply for CEU credit/certificate on their own?

A:  The participants would need to have the proper forms signed by the instructor and mail them to the CEU Administrator along with payment.   

Q:  Is there a special form needed?

A:  Yes, they can download the proper form needed from the left-hand menu on this page under Application and Forms.

Q:  Can participants receive CEUs for attending a Paper or Panel Session?

A:  Yes, they can if the session is registered to  offer them.  If the session is, not please direct the organizor to contact the CEU Administrator.  (They may not be aware that they can offer them).  

Q:  Do you need to have the course locations(s) and date(s) set prior to submitting a CEU application for the courses?

A:  No, you do not.  You can submit the applications and confirm the dates with the CEU Administrator when they are confirmed.  

Q: If the course is to be presented at several locations and/or dates throughout the year, can you receive certification for all  locations/dates with one application?

A:  Yes, they can submit one CEU appliction including a breakdown of all the dates and locations the course will be offered.  

Q:  How could instructors request to have their presentations transformed into IEEE Expert Now Course topics?

A:  They can refer to the IEEE Expert Now Course Development website.
