IEEE developed PEERS (Pre-University Educator/Engineer Resource Site) to encourage collaboration and sharing between engineers and educators, and to provide resources to facilitate joint efforts to encourage students in the study of science, mathematics, and technology.
The need for "technological literacy" is expanding and schools are being held responsible for producing technologically literate citizens. However, educators, like every other segment of society, possess different levels of technical awareness. Some teachers may be very prepared to teach about technology. Others may not feel as confident. Engineers who use, develop, and apply technology as a regular part of their everyday jobs are in a key position to become valuable resources to the education community. Working together, engineers and educators can have a positive impact on the level of technical preparedness of future generations. To succeed, teachers and engineers need to learn more about each other and what is needed to establish on-going cooperative alliances. PEERS Engineer Resources:
