How do I form an Affinity Group?
You must complete the Affinity Group petition,
including the names and member numbers of 6
Members in good standing, higher than student
grade, who have indicated their willingness to join
the Affinity Group when it is formed. The petition
must be approved by both your Section Chair and
the parent entity. When completed, the petition
should be forwarded to the Officer Services
Specialist for review and processing at scs-officer-report@ieee.org
or via fax + 1 732 463 9359.
What is a "parent entity"?
For Consultants' Network, it is the Alliance
of IEEE Consultants' Networks (AICN), for Women in
Engineering, it is the WIE Committee, for
Graduates of the Last Decade, it is the GOLD
Committee and for Life Members it is the Life
Members Committee.
To whom does an Affinity Group report?
The Affinity Group is under the joint
supervision of the Section and parent entity.
Annual required
reporting must be submitted to maintain
viability.
What kind of reporting is required?
Affinity Groups are required to report
meeting activity, financial activity and current
officers.
-
Meeting reports should be submitted using
the form
L31. There is a field available to add
additional email addresses so a copy can be
provided to the Section Secretary. This form
should be completed after each meeting.
-
A list of current officers, or change of
officers during the year, should be submitted to
the Section Secretary as soon as that
information is available.
-
Financial information (income and
expenses) should be submitted to the Section
Treasurer at the end of each year. If your
Affinity Group has a bank account, then bank
account information and a copy of the year end
bank statement should be included. In
addition, you should be familiar with the
bank signature card requirements (B.3)
What kind of funding is available for our
Affinity Group?
The annual Section Rebate allows for $200
for qualifying Affinity Groups (see reporting
requirements above). An activity bonus of $75
dollars can be earned for Groups holding 6 or more
meetings of a technical, professional or
educational nature each year. Additional one-time
funding is available for GOLD Affinity groups. See
the GOLD web
page for details. For additional funding
opportunities, contact the parent entities.
