Electronic Newsletters - Step 1: Electronic Mailing Lists

Printable Format
Printer Friendly

IEEE offers the option of two services to electronically communicate with your members:

1. e-Notice: this service allows you to communicate with your membership without the headache of updating a mailing list and keeping track of “bounces” and “unsubscribe” requests.   IEEE Operations Center Staff maintains the lists internally, distributes your notice, and tracks bounces and unsubscribe requests.   It is recommended that e-Notice distributions be limited to once per month, so as not to be perceived as spam by the membership.   For more information, go to www.ieee.org/enotice .

Please note that e-Notice does not provide for including anyone on the list that is not a member of your Section.   Any other individuals (such as local businesses, or courtesy contacts) would have to be maintained separately by local volunteers.

2. The use of an electronic mailing list.   A list can be established by requesting one through the IEEE web page: http://eleccomm.ieee.org/maillist.shtml You will find it helpful to review ALL of the information available on this page about electronic mailing lists.

Once your electronic mailing list has been established, it must be populated.  You can do this by:

  1. Publicizing the existence of the list and how to subscribe to it prominently on the first page of your newsletter.  Do this in every issue of the newsletter.
  2. Populating the list from the email addresses provided with SAMIEEE.  If you choose this option, you must comply with IEEE policy that requires that your "welcome to the XYZ Section email list" message include how to unsubscribe.
