Electronic Newsletters - Step 2: Prepare the Membership

Printable Format
Printer Friendly

All of the information we have gathered indicates that no unit has converted to an electronic newsletter overnight.  In preparing their membership, several Sections report that they began notifying members of the intention to convert to an electronic newsletter for as long as three years before the actual switch.

In the interim, make sure your hard copy newsletter is also an electronic newsletter, and make sure it is running smoothly.  Is it available on the web?  Is the web address for the Section site prominently placed on the hard copy newsletter?  Is the newsletter being emailed to the majordomo list in addition to the hard copy?

If you do not yet have a Section web page, you can take advantage of Entity Web Hosting to set one up.  Make sure you know how to check how many hits your newsletter page is getting, as you will want to know that when you are ready to make the transition.

Several Sections have indicated that they conducted a survey (or several surveys over a period of a few years) of their members to determine the interest in an electronic newsletter.  Questions might include:  do you have access to the Internet?   would you prefer to get the entire newsletter in an email, or a notice that the newsletter is now available on the Section's web page? etc.
