IEEE Fellow Introductory Speech

Recognizing the achievements of its members is an important part of the mission of the IEEE.  Since 1963, IEEE has acknowledged those individuals who have contributed significantly to the advancement of electro and information technologies and sciences for the benefit of humanity and the profession.

The grade of IEEE Fellow recognizes unusual distinction in the profession, and is conferred by the IEEE Board of Directors upon a person with an extraordinary record of accomplishments in any of the IEEE fields of interest.  The accomplishments that are being honored should contribute significantly to the advancement of engineering science and technology.  After a rigorous evaluation process performed each year by the IEEE Fellow Committee, a slate of candidates is proposed to the IEEE Board of Directors for approval.

The number of successful candidates, in any year, must not exceed one-tenth percent of the IEEE voting membership on record as of 31 December of the preceding year.  New IEEE Fellows receive a certificate and pin, and these awards are sent to each recipient approximately one month after notification of their elevation to the highest grade of IEEE membership.

It is with great pleasure that I introduce to you, (Fellow’s Name), who was named an IEEE Fellow this year (Fellow’s Citation).
