Through IEEE.tv
Robert H. Dennard, IEEE Life Fellow, will be
presented with the IEEE
Medal of Honor for inventing dynamic
random-access memory which fostered faster and
more reliable computers. Other honorees
include individuals whose work
has enabled deep-space exploration, improved
digital storage technologies, and advanced radar
detection, among others. You can help recognize the efforts of outstanding volunteers by nominating someone for one of the prestigious Member and Geographic Activities (MGA) Awards. Each prestigious award has a unique mission and criteria and offers the opportunity to honor distinguished colleagues, inspiring teachers, and corporate leaders. If you know someone who has made substantial Regional contributions through innovative projects, exemplary leadership, service, or by fulfilling the goals as related to transnational activities, consider nominating them for one of the following awards:
Please complete the Online Award Nomination Form. The deadline for nominations is 15 October 2009. If you have any questions, please e-mail MGA Awards. The IEEE Job
Site minor redesign is complete. This
redesign was created with IEEE members in
mind, providing them with additional career-related
information and resources. Changes include: Inactive Chapter and Affinity Group Notices Each year, after Sections, Subsections, Chapters, and Affinity Groups have submitted meeting activity reports for the prior year and rebates have been mailed, a report is run of the subgroups that have NOT met the minimum required number of meetings for the year. To remain viable and to be considered active, Chapters must hold two (2) or more technical meetings each year, and Affinity Groups must hold at least two (2) meetings of any category. A notice regarding the inactive or under-active units is sent to their Chairs and to their administrative parent (Section or Council) officers. Summary reports of these subunits are sent to Region Directors, Region Chapter Coordinators, Division Directors, Society Presidents, Society Chapter Coordinators, and Society Executive Directors. The point of these notices and reports is not to cause embarrassment, but rather, they are sent as a “heads up” that these units may be having difficulties. Perhaps they need assistance with Section/Chapter Rejuvenation Strategies - new volunteers, more financial support, a new place to meet, or ideas for new speakers. Sometimes they may simply be forgetting to report unit meetings, so all that is needed is a reminder. Note to Newsletter Editors and Webmasters When you publish any information pertaining to the IEEE Annual Election, all efforts should be made to ensure its accuracy. If you plan to publish information on a candidate, please offer the other candidate(s) in that election category the same opportunity. You can check with Corporate Activities election staff or refer to the election web page for the most accurate and up-to-date information on all candidates and election categories. Please e-mail Carrie Loh with questions.
