Council Formation

Printable Format

A Council can be formed by agreement of a group of contiguous Sections and it exists at their pleasure. It is intended to act as a subordinate committee of the Sections and they have the right to direct its operation.

A Council is formed by the Sections to do only those delegated tasks that can be best done together by the Sections rather than singly by each Section.

The Sections retain their recognition as the basic operating, executive and administrative unit of the IEEE. The Regional Director and the Member and Geographic Activities Board shall approve the formation of a Council.

REQUIREMENTS TO ESTABLISH AN IEEE GEOGRAPHIC COUNCIL

Each of the Chairs of the contiguous Sections forming the Council must fill in and sign a petition. The petitions should then be submitted IEEE Regional Activities for verification.  Following verification, the petition must be approved by the Region Committee before submission to the Member and Geographic Activities Board (MGA Board). Recommendation for approval of Council formation is presented to MGA Board by the Regional Director.
