CAREER AND EMPLOYMENT RESOURCES

If looking for a new job is the focus of many members in your Section, the IEEE job resource links on the web may be able to help.  There are listings for both U.S. and outside the U.S., as well as hints on how to plan and manage your career.

Continuing Education Units

IEEE Societies, Sections, and Chapters may apply to offer Continuing Education Units (CEUs) for their short courses and conferences. Given the need for continuing education for licensed professionals, the CEU, which equals 10 Professional Development Hours (PDH), provides a strong incentive for those wishing to document professional development activities. If your Organizational Unit is interested in offering IEEE CEUs, please contact Educational Activities.

To reduce the burden of record maintenance on the Organizational Unit, Educational Activities maintains a central registry of all CEUs awarded. For a small fee, Educational Activities will maintain student records, provide certificates for completed courses, and process transcripts Back to top of page. upon request.

Distinguished Lecturer Program

If your Chapter would like to hold a truly notable technical meeting, consider taking advantage of the Distinguished Lecturer Programs. The programs, administered by individual Societies and Technical Councils, identify IEEE members with an established reputation for excellence in specialized topics of interest to the electrotechnology community. Many of the IEEE Societies have agreed to provide full or partial funding, thereby making expert speakers available to local Chapters which might not otherwise be able to afford a presenter of such caliber. Top-notch programs can generate revenue for your entity - advertise well; charge a fee for non-members.

See the IEEE Distinguished Lecturer web page for more information and a selection menu of Back to top of page. auto-retrievable files.

Planning Educational Programs

The IEEE Educational Activities home page provides links to information for organizing educational activities at the Section level, and an overview of the resources for planning educational and career development programs, as well as CEU guidelines and policies.

The Technical Societies and Regions encourage and provide support for educational activities at the Section and Society Chapter levels. While IEEE units sponsor a number of educational activities at the international and regional levels, many more lifelong learning or continuing education programs (CEP) are organized by Sections and are tailored to meet the specific needs of the local membership. These activities are important since they are planned by members in a Section and cater directly to the needs of those members. Back to top of page.

Speakers Bureau

Extend the contact your Section/Chapter has with the community or industry by establishing a Speaker's Bureau - a list of volunteers who are experts on specialized topics and who are willing and able to give an interesting presentation. Prepare a brief description of the topics and the speakers' qualifications, then distribute to local newspapers, schools, industries, community organizations - any entity which might be interested. Remember, your members may well have expertise in areas of general appeal as well as a more technical orientation. Draw on these Back to top of page. members for speakers at your own meetings, too. Don't forget to acknowledge their contribution with a certificate, plaque, or some other tangible form of recognition.
