Here is a quick reference guide for connecting with your community.

  • Determine your objective for community outreach.

  • Select one local organization most likely to help you meet your goal. For example: local school administration, the business persons’ association, municipal government, etc.

  • Call for contact names, meeting dates and opportunities to make a presentation.

  • Learn as much as you can in advance about the organization.

  • Find out how many are likely to attend the meeting.

  • Tailor the IEEE presentation to your audience, keeping your goal in mind.

  • Bring information about the IEEE and your Section, as well as IEEE business cards to distribute

  • Follow-up within a week to thank the organization’s leadership for the opportunity to connect and offer services of the Section/its membership.

  • Seek joint publicity opportunities as you begin working together.
