If you are representing your IEEE Section in an outreach effort to local corporations to secure meeting space, sponsorship for activities, gain acceptance for volunteer activities, or simply want to post your Section activity announcements, you can use the following ideas to help set your outreach plans to action.

  1. Determine what your objectives are
  2. Determine a course of action
  3. Determine what follow-up actions are appropriate or necessary

Your time is very limited:

  • Contact the Section’s SAMIeee data recipient for a list of members employed at a particular company for an inside contact
  • Utilize the company communication pipeline for section announcements
  • Develop an email list to send announcement communications
  • Utilize the section newsletter and web site for announcements

Your time is more flexible:

  • Contact the company’s public relations/corporate communications department
  • Contact the company’s human resources department for permission to make IEEE materials available to employees

You have a lot of time available:

  • Contact CEO’s office to request an opportunity to provide an IEEE presentation to company management.
  • Follow-up on questions raised or interest in IEEE membership benefits from presentation to company management.
  • Utilize feedback from employees on IEEE brochures posted and interest in membership. Consider an “IEEE Day” at the company with information, membership brochures, and publication samples.
