A) No, only current forms can be used.  Old forms will not be accepted.

Nomination Requirements

Q) What are the qualifications for being nominated an IEEE Fellow?

A)The nominee must meet the following three basic qualifications: have accomplishments that have contributed importantly to the advancement or application of engineering, science and technology, bringing the realization of significant value to society; hold IEEE Senior Member or IEEE Life Senior Member grade at the time the nomination is submitted and have been a member in good standing in any grade for a period of five years or more preceding 1 January of the year of elevation.
Note:  IEEE affiliate membership does not apply.

Self-nomination

Q) Can I nominate myself for IEEE Fellow grade?

A) No, a self-nomination is NOT permitted.

References and Endorsement Forms

Q) What is the difference between a reference and an endorsement form?

A) A reference form is a required part of the nomination process as it cites specific evidence of the nominee's special qualities and impact of the nominee's contributions.

An endorsement form strengthens a nomination, but is not required.

Insufficient References

Q) I am nominating an individual this year, but I don't have the required number of references. May I serve as a reference?

A) No, the nominator may not serve as a reference.

Q) Can the nomination, reference, and/or endorsement forms be faxed?

A)  No, faxes are not accepted.

Q) Can the nomination form, reference forms and endorsement forms be sent by e-mail?

A) No, attachments in e-mails of nominations, references, or endorsements are not acceptable.

New Fellows Announcement

Q) When are the newly elevated IEEE Fellows announced?

A) Newly elevated IEEE Fellows are announced shortly after the fourth quarter IEEE Board of Directors meeting, normally scheduled in late-November/mid-December.

Notifying Nominators and Nominees

Q) How is the nominator notified? Is the nominee notified as well?

A) The IEEE Fellows Staff notifies successful nominees and their nominators via e-mail, fax, or first class mail. Nominators of unsuccessful nominees will be notified via e-mail, fax or first class mail.

Please note the importance of having the correct current street address and current e-mail address on file with the IEEE Fellow Staff.

Elevated IEEE Fellows

Q) How many new IEEE Fellows may be recommended each year?

A) According to IEEE Bylaw I-305.7, "The total number of Fellow recommendations in any one year must not exceed one-tenth of one percent of the IEEE voting membership on record as of 31 December of the year preceding."
