GOLD anniversary logo Marking the milestone of the conception of IEEE GOLD in 1996 and its launch that year at the IEEE Sections Congress 1996, GOLD has moved forward in forming affinity groups - organized for professional development activities (technical, social, personal development, etc.).


The GOLD Committee Charter states its Vision is "to increase value and worth of IEEE services and programs to young professionals and recent graduates".

The GOLD Committee Charter states its Mission is "to develop and foster relationships to provide tangible value to members; Promote the GOLD program to students; Recruit, develop and nurture volunteers."

Significant GOLD Activities and Events

1998  

  • Launched the Quick Start Incentive Fund (QSIF) program that provided funding to GOLD Affinity Groups as they began operations and planned activities.

  • First issue of the GOLD Rush newsletter was distributed in print format.

1999  

  • Mike Van Chau, Chair of GOLD Committee

  • GOLD folder with information pieces provided to each Sections Congress 1999 participant.

  • GOLD web pages move to the IEEE website.

  • Region 9 video completed and launched at IEEE Sections Congress 1999.

  • GOLD Rush newsletter moves from print to electronic version.

2000  

  • Scott Blair, Chair of GOLD Committee

  • GOLD Rush releases two issues with IEEE members as guest editors.

  • GOLD Rush issues available on GOLD website.

2001  

  • Slawo Wesolkowski, Chair of GOLD Committee

  • IEEE partnered with ASME on their Young Engineers Satellite Forum.

  • Development of GOLD multimedia CD project begins.

  • Launched online (research) focus groups with GOLD members globally.

2002

  • Slawo Wesolkowski, Chair of GOLD Committee

  • IEEE Sections Congress 2002.

  • GOLD members interviewed for GOLD multimedia CD at Sections Congress.

  • Launch work on the GOLD multimedia CD presentation.

2003  

  • Anoop Alazhathu, Chair of GOLD Committee

  • GOLD area opened on Section-Chapter Volunteer Forum online community.

2004  

  • Ivan Jiletta, Chair of GOLD Committee

  • Graduated student retention survey completed.

  • Completion and distribution of GOLD CD to volunteer leadership at Sections Congress.

2005  

  • Gerald Anleitner, Chair of GOLD Committee

  • Launch of IEEE Mentoring Pilot Program in Regions 1,2, and 3.

  • GOLD Rush newsletter sent via IEEE e-Notice to all GOLD members.

  • GOLD held its first online seminar on Networking for world-wide IEEE GOLD members.

2006  

  • Darrel Chong, Chair of GOLD Committee

  • GOLD held second online seminar on Financial Planning for world-wide IEEE GOLD members.

  • 10th Anniversary Celebration of IEEE GOLD.

  • Launch of GOLD Bulletin Board.

  • Launch of IEEE Mentoring Connection.
