How did IEEE find you?
|
|
I learned about the IEEE
student branch at an engineering
freshmen orientation
event. I attended the first
meeting, expressed interest
in organizing activities, and was
appointed the Activities
Chair that evening.

Describe something that you did as a
volunteer that you are proud of:
|
|
As a Regional
Student-Professional Awareness
Conference (S-PAC)
Coordinator, I have many opportunities
to work directly with
engineering students and mentor them
through the S-PAC
experience. It’s very
rewarding to me to hear back from
students about the successes and
challenges of their
conference. The program not only
provides students with
invaluable content and interaction with
successful engineering
professionals, but it also provides the
student leaders running the
event with core leadership and project
management skills. In
this role, I have also organized Student
Leadership Training
Workshops that bring the students
together to share ideas and
network. I feel that two of the
best benefits the IEEE
provides are teaching leadership without
authority and networking
with your peers. As an SPAC
Coordinator, I have the
opportunity to help students receive
both of these benefits.
|
How has IEEE prepared you for your workplace?
|
|
In my professional life, the
IEEE is a venue to learn from
engineers who have similar challenges as
me but have different
educational or professional
backgrounds. The IEEE compliments
my professional life by providing new
vantage points on challenges
that come up in the office.
|
What do you like most about
volunteering with IEEE?
|
|
I enjoy volunteering because
of the diverse group of incredibly
talented people I’ve met along
the way. I’ve worked with
so many great engineers with
significant accomplishments who still
make time as volunteers to further the
profession in some
way. The volunteer sitting at the
committee meeting next to
you could be working on a top secret
defense project or designing
the next major consumer electronic
gadget. These volunteers
are respected innovators, educators, and
leaders in
high-technology. Their passion for
the advancement of science
and technology drives them as volunteers
in the IEEE, as well.
It’s great to work with great
people.
