|
How did IEEE find you?
|
|
I began my IEEE volunteering
when I became an IEEE Student Member
in 1996.
|
Describe something that you did as a
volunteer that you are proud of:
|
|
I am proud to have formed
the IEEE Boston GOLD Affinity Group. In
2001, Boston GOLD received the IEEE
Regional Activities Award for
Outstanding GOLD program by organizing
successful technical and
non-technical programs for young
professionals. I am also proud of
being a team player to lead Region 1
GOLD, which won the award for
Best Regional GOLD activities in 2006.
|
How has IEEE nurtured you as a person?
|
|
As an IEEE member, I have
not only been able to enhance my
technical skills (e.g. through technical
literature and conferences)
but have also actively participated in
activities and events held
by Sections, Chapters and Regions. These
have given me the
opportunity to interact with other
members. Hence, it has
allowed me to enrich my knowledge by
sharing experiences,
ultimately creating links between
professionals, universities and
industries.
|
How has IEEE prepared you for your workplace?
|
|
To serve IEEE as the 2007
RAB GOLD Chair was the great opportunity
to enhance my leadership abilities, and
widen my network with RAB
leaders from all the major IEEE boards
as well as RAB committee
members, and the leadership of IEEE as a
whole. Being a leader in
such an international organization, the
IEEE provided me the
training ground to enhance my management
and leadership skills that I
could use at my workplace.
|
What do you like most about
volunteering with IEEE?
|
|
Making new friends
worldwide, and enhancing my friendships.
|
What wouldn't be possible for you, if
you hadn't volunteered
for IEEE?
|
|
To manage a worldwide
organization, and make key decisions to
serve the IEEE members
around the world.
|
What do you find unique about IEEE?
|
|
It is the worldwide
Engineering community and the connection
to many professions.
|
Why did you continue volunteering?
|
|
IEEE has transformed me from
an ordinary Engineer to a successful
professional leader. Through IEEE GOLD,
I have many opportunities to
develop my professional and leadership
skills. It broadens my
career network, and connects me to the
worldwide Engineering
community. GOLD has shaped my life.
