Students can join and renew membership

Students are required to join IEEE and renew membership online.  To join, visit join IEEE.
To renew IEEE membership, visit renewal.

Paper application forms and renewal forms for Students are no longer produced.  Students will be notified by e-mail when they can renew for the current year.  That makes providing a valid e-mail address very important.

Benefits of Joining/Renewing Online
Students self-certify that they qualify for IEEE student membership by completing the attestation questions and have instant access to online services with an IEEE web account when they join IEEE online with a credit card.  There is also the option to join online and pay by check or other methods.

Once the online application or renewal form has been completed, the student will be presented with an option to “Continue to Checkout”, or “Print and Mail with Payment”.

By choosing the “Print and Mail” option, the information that has been entered is temporarily stored and processing is completed when it arrives at the IEEE Operations Center with payment.

IEEE offers a group process for branches that collect multiple student applications.

Enhancements made to the online application process to enhance your recruiting efforts:

  • Keyword search for school name is case insensitive, making searches much more successful.
  • Students self-certify that they qualify for IEEE student membership, cutting down on the time it takes to process a new application.
  • Undergraduate or graduate students taking at least 50% of a normal full-time program/course of study in IEEE designated fields are now eligible for student membership in IEEE. This is especially welcome for our graduate student members who are eligible for student membership rates.

Is your Student Branch having a new membership recruitment campaign on campus? Student Branches are encouraged to set up a computer onsite to enable the prospective student members to join online. Branch officers can then let the students know about their upcoming activities and how to find out more information, connecting them to the local IEEE quickly.  Student Branch officers can collect the dues in the local currency or other forms of payment. Create a list of the new applicants’ names and IEEE member numbers (or print their applications onsite), then send the list (or applications) with the batch payment to the IEEE Operations Center for processing.

How To Use the IEEE Master Brand
**UPDATED IEEE IDENTITY STANDARDS DOCUMENT AVAILABLE**
An updated version of the IEEE Identity Standards document is now available online at www.ieee.org. The document explains the correct usage of the IEEE name, Master Brand and other organizational symbols in all official materials, communications and promotional materials produced by the IEEE, both print and electronic.

The rules for use of the IEEE Master Brand have not changed, however, language has been clarified to address frequent questions, the most common usage errors and correct usage on Web sites. Additionally, visual examples regarding use of the Master Brand with the name of an IEEE event or unit have been added.  Here is access to the updated Identity Standards document.

If your Student Branch would like to host a web site, you have access to the IEEE Entity web hosting program.

Use SAMIEEE to access Student Branch members

Student Branch Counselors and Chairs have access to SAMIEEE, Section/Society/Student Branch Access to Membership Information.

SAMIEEE is a web enabled query tool that allows ad-hoc querying, reporting and downloading of IEEE's membership data. All reported Student Branch Counselors and Student Branch Chairs can now generate a list of the current Student Branch members.

To access SAMIEEE, use your IEEE web account. The Branch membership list can be used to check the new students who joined IEEE or to contact current members to communicate with members about activities or verify attendance at a workshop.

This useful tool can also be used to communicate with those Student members who have not renewed their IEEE membership for the current year to improve retention of members. Did you know that it takes less energy and resources to retain and existing member than to recruit a new member?  Use the best practices in the Membership Development manual, Student branch edition.

Only the officers reported to IEEE Student Services and updated in the database will have access to this tool. Report officers online annually and as elections are held.

For details, please visit the SAMIEE web section or send questions to samieee@ieee.org.

Student Activities volunteer contacts

All Student Branches have valuable resources to them through the local Section and the Region.  For a list of your regional representatives, search the student activities committee lists. To find the complete list of Student Branches by Region and Section, search the regional lists.  Networking with other Student Branches and members is a premiere benefit of IEEE membership.
