IEEE Potentials Magazine

Oversight of the editorial content in IEEE Potentials magazine is managed by an Editorial Board of volunteer members. The board is led by an Editor in Chief (EIC) who reviews each issue and includes six Associate Editors who assist in the solicitation of articles and a Student Editor to represent the student voice of the IEEE.

IEEE Potentials is dedicated to serving the needs of undergraduate and graduate students as well as entry-level engineers. Article subjects are explored through timely manuscripts on both technical and career related issues.

If you’re a technology professional who has cutting-edge technical ideas, formulated concepts about what will work, or opinions about the forces that influence the problem-solving process, IEEE Potentials would like to hear from you.

IEEE Potentials is interested in manuscripts that deal with theory, practical applications, or new research. They can be tutorial in nature. Submissions may consist of either full articles or shorter, opinion-oriented essays. When submitting an article, please remember:

• All manuscripts should be written at the level of the student audience.
• Articles without equations are preferred; however, a minimum of equations is acceptable.
• List no more than 12 references at the end of your manuscript. No embedded reference numbers should be included in the text. If you need to attribute the source of key points or quotes, state names in the text and give the full reference at the end.
• Limit figures to 10 or less.
• Articles should be approximately 2,000-4,000 words in length; essays should be 900-1,000 words.
• Include a brief biography of four to six lines for each author.

If you have a problem for the Gamesman section, submit it along with the solution to potentials@ieee.org. If we publish your problem, you'll receive a free IEEE t-shirt, so please include your size (L or XL).

There are different features in each issue, such as the "My first Job" a new column, and here is the first article published (PDF 32.5 MB).  Student Branch profiles (PDF 3.12 MB) are also featured, highlighting activities and programs held on different campuses worldwide.   

Would you like to express an objective opinion in a timely fashion?  Do you enjoy placing Xs in boxes as well as writing brief, to the point remarks/paragraphs? If yes and you would like some valuable experience, you should consider being an IEEE Potentials reviewer.  Articles are reviewed through Manuscript Central.  We like you to respond within a two-three week period of time.
