The Program Committee of the 2008 Sections Congress is privileged to release the breakout schedule for Sections Congress. The Congress is a triennial gathering of section leadership and is sponsored by the Member and Geographic Activities Board. It is one of the most important meetings for IEEE’s volunteer leadership. The three days of Sections Congress will allow you to learn about IEEE, sharpen your leadership skills, share experiences and network with other delegates and IEEE staff members

The program has been developed over the last three years based on responses from the 2005 Sections Congress caucus recommendations and a survey of Section Chairs conducted in 2007. The results were reviewed by the Program Committee which identified a wide range of topics for inclusion in the breakout sessions assigned to three different tracks. Sessions on topics of interest to a wider audience are repeated so participants may attend as many relevant sessions as possible

The 3 Breakout Session Tracks have been identified as the following:

Blue Track: Membership. The growth and nurturing of our 375,000+ members is a core value of IEEE. This track focuses on how a member’s relationship with IEEE can be enhanced through local engagement. Geographic unit leaders will be trained on the benefits of IEEE membership, and how to communicate and apply the benefits to the needs of the members in their local area. Track participants will also learn best practices for using the IEEE Membership Development tools, staff and volunteer network. Leveraging these resources will ultimately lead to significantly increased retention, recruitment and recovery of members at the local Section level.

Red Track: Section Management. This track provides information on obtaining support and resources from the IEEE organization and best practices for a successful Section. In this track, you will learn how to manage activities such as finances, conferences and affinity groups. You will also receive first-hand information about effective practices for planning successful meetings, volunteer recruitment and leadership development.

Green Track: Section/Chapter Activities. The success of IEEE depends on the continued cooperation between geographic units at the local level. This track focuses on how to promote and facilitate the delivery of technical, professional and educational material. Topics include exploiting available resources; leveraging Standards and Publications, Awards and Recognition, and affinity group activities; and working with Students and student branches. Activities your Section can undertake to enhance its image and support IEEE are also discussed.
