MGA Nominations and Appointments Committee

Deadline - Has been extended to 11 July for 2009 MGA Board Positions

This includes the 2009 MGA Treasurer, 2009 MGA Vice Chairs and 2009 MGA Committee Memberships.

Questions regarding nominations for MGA Board, MGA Committee chairs positions can be directed to Region Director, Past Region Director or Director-elect or the MGA N&A Committee through MGA staff (j.caswell@ieee.org)

Committee Business

The MGA Nominations and Appointments Committee helps to identify nominees to stand for election to certain MGA organizational units. The Committee will also review the qualifications of those nominated for, or appointed to, membership of certain MGA .

Meetings: The MGA Nominations and Appointments Committee conducts business via teleconference and electronic mail. One face to face meeting is normally held in June in conjunction with the MGA Board Meeting. The committee has teleconferences based on deadlines in preparation for the OU meetings.

Due to the sensitive nature of its activities, this committee does not distribute agendas and minutes. Please refer to the MGA Operations Manual for specific information:

MGA Nominations & Appointments Process

In accordance with IEEE objectives, the MGA Board has established an equitable nominations and appointments process. The process has been developed to choose a slate of the best-qualified persons for the various positions throughout the MGA organization. It was also developed to involve a wide range of members in the selection process. It is essential that all candidates nominated for office are highly qualified, and it is therefore essential that all members show great diligence and exercise judgment in making nominations. In order to give the MGA N&A Committee an opportunity to prepare & distribute the slate of candidates, the following deadlines have been established.

For action in June 2008

30 April – Candidates Vice President – Member and Geographic Activities/MGA Board Chair
30 April – Candidates for Members of IEEE Admission and Advancement Committee and IEEE Life Members Committee

For action in November 2008:

15 June (extended until 11 July 2008) – Candidates MGA Treasurer, MGA Vice Chairs, Chair - MGA Member Engagement & Life Cycle Committee
1 October – Candidates MGA Committee Chairs/Members

In accordance with the IEEE globalization initiative and in an attempt to ensure that the MGA is globally balanced, each Region will be requested to submit nominations. The Region nominating committee might consider members or past members of the committee who are familiar with Region affairs and gave excellent service.
