The IEEE Public Visibility initiative is a communications program that seeks to increase the visibility of IEEE and to serve as a global voice for the engineering profession.

The mission of the IEEE Public Visibility Committee is to increase awareness, understanding, and appreciation of how engineering, computing, and technology benefit humanity, and to promote the visibility of engineering, computing, and IEEE technical professionals who carry out this work.

The key ingredient of the IEEE Public Visibility program is the technical expertise of IEEE members and volunteers who serve as media champions and global thought leaders on prominent technology advancements and issues. Their valuable commentary in the media helps raise the overall visibility of IEEE.

An important component of the Public Visibility program is Partnership Marketing, which looks to collaborate with IEEE Societies and operating units to provide added exposure to their content through social media campaigns and the IEEE Transmitter content portal.

The benefits of working with Public Visibility:

  • Extends IEEE’s reach
  • Establishes social media value, reaching a broader audience—over 3 million people
  • Can provide increased awareness and visibility at major industry events

A message from Babak Beheshti, Chair, 2024 IEEE Public Visibility Committee

It is my pleasure to serve as the Chair of the IEEE Public Visibility Committee in 2024.

The IEEE Public Visibility program helps ensure that IEEE maintains its position as a leading authority on technological innovation in the 21st century, particularly given the rapid convergence of technical domain areas across multiple sectors including privacy and security, robotics, and the Internet of Things.

Through the Public Visibility program, IEEE leverages the technical and unbiased expertise of its members. As they speak, critique, debate, and comment on present-day innovations, IEEE maintains its relevance and pivotal role as an expert source for technical knowledge.

Last year we partnered with over 19 IEEE Societies and organizational units (OUs) to deliver a total reach of over 22.3 million views and 1.6 million audience engagements on social media, and also secured over 2,500 traditional media placements with an audience reach of over 45 billion. In 2024, we will continue to leverage our Transmitter site and social media platforms to share insights from our IEEE members.

Additionally, through our Impact Creators program, we focus on the stories of the people behind the innovations rather than the technology itself. In 2024, these articles will highlight Industry, Innovation and Infrastructure, AI and Autonomous Technologies, Cybersecurity and Quantum, and The Impact of Technology in 2025.

The Public Visibility Team is committed to IEEE’s dedication to meet the needs of today and to help create the world of tomorrow. As we continue to grow our program, we welcome your feedback and support. Together, we can further IEEE’s legacy as a thought leader on prominent technology advancements around the world.
