IEEE presence in Europe

The Technology Centre is an IEEE global office located in Europe. It was opened in September of 2017 and it offers collaboration, support, and services to the technical community, including IEEE members. It focuses on the needs of government institutions, industry, and academia, and it supports IEEE’s goals by both raising awareness of current offerings and developing new ones. The aim is to promote and diversify the IEEE value proposition, thus expanding its membership base, impact, and engagement, on the local and global levels.

A high-level strategic analysis identified human-centric technical innovation as a topic that matches both stakeholders' needs as well as IEEE’s expertise and interest, with a focus on mobility, health, manufacturing, AI, and blockchain.

Public policy

IEEE in Europe works with EU institutions and other public authorities in EU/EFTA countries to help shape technology policy to the benefit of its members, the engineering and scientific communities, and the public-at-large. In particular, IEEE in Europe leverages the knowledge and expertise of the global IEEE community to provide policymakers with insights and recommendations to inform technology-related public policy issues from a global perspective. By directly engaging and liaising with EU and government officials, as well as hosting and participating in international events, IEEE in Europe provides its members with tangible opportunities to contribute to, and expand their knowledge of, technology policy issues, and gives them a voice and means to ensure their creativity can be employed for the advancement of technology for humanity.

Standardization

IEEE Technical Societies and IEEE Standards Association (IEEE SA) have collaboratively created many globally applicable foundational standards; most prominently Ethernet and WLAN.

Offering an inclusive, neutral platform that encourages and enables the collaborative, we invite, unite and mobilize technologists, industry professionals, academics, thought leaders, and policymakers - across borders, industries, and disciplines - to shape and improve the technology of the future. IEEE SA is proactively innovating in every industry from life sciences to power and energy; healthcare to telecommunications; transportation to mobility, artificial intelligence to automation, and other frontiers.

IEEE SA supports industry alliances, encourages early technology collaborations, and pre- and post-standards development activities that help identify new markets and inform the development of future technology standards and solutions.
