The IEEE European Public Policy Committee (EPPC) aims at expanding the dialogue between the European engineering community and European public authorities to enable technologists to more easily share their expertise and concerns and to enable European Union (EU) institutions and other policy stakeholders to more easily obtain technologists’ input in matters relating to IEEE’s fields of interest. For more information on IEEE fields of interest, please consult the IEEE entry in the European Transparency Register.

The EPPC and its activities brings together tech experts and government officials. Read more on the initiative.

IEEE EPPC Call for New Working Group Members

The EPPC is conducting a Call for New Working Group Members from the European IEEE community. If you are interested in serving on either one of the Working Groups over the period of 2023–2024, please submit your response to this survey no later than Sunday, 23 October 2022.

EPPC structure

Currently, the IEEE EPPC convenes two working groups, one on Information and Communication Technologies (ICT) and one on Energy. Both groups are composed of IEEE volunteers from the EU and EFTA countries (PDF, 81 KB), with expertise in these technical fields. The groups meet virtually every month and convene in person several times a year. The primary task of the working groups is to engage on topics on the EU policy agenda where it can provide value by sharing a technologist perspective through papers, meetings, or other channels.

ICT

EPP-ICT-image-cityNewly emerging technologies and applications are revolutionizing the digital world and changing the ICT landscape in Europe. The EU is confronted with a changing reality. Over the last decade, it has been active to explore its potential and face its challenges.

Energy

EPP-Energy-image-blue-linesThe energy sector represents one of the key areas of involvement for the EU. The creation of an internal, integrated, and solid energy market is crucial to tackling key challenges such as creating affordable energy prices for the EU citizens, the security of energy supply, and the transition to a low-carbon economy.

Events

EPP-Events-image-meeting-roomEvents are often organized by IEEE under the framework of specific projects or IEEE milestones. These events are related to several areas and take place on a yearly basis, and some on a periodical basis. In this section you can find information on all past and future events related to the EPPC.

Publications

EPP-Publications-image-book-bubblesThis section presents the many publications produced under the IEEE European Public Policy Committee over the years, as well as other relevant publications from other sources. The Working Group public policy position statements are published and distributed as contributions to the sharing of knowledge in Europe and the world for the benefit of humanity.

Webinars

WebinarsThis section includes the recordings and presentation materials for the quarterly public policy webinars from IEEE. Through these webinars, IEEE offers its members insights into what EU policy priorities are, how they are crafted and developed, who the key decision making institutions are, and how EU policies are implemented at the national level.

News

EPP-NEws-image-newsroom-screensNews relevant to the European engineering community varies in nature. The News section gathers EU policy issues and IEEE activities in Europe, as well as technically-related information.
