IEEE Foundation Announces Humanitarian Technology Fund

23 February – The IEEE Foundation has established The Humanitarian Technology Fund which will award grants to projects that develop and implement technological solutions for pressing human needs, especially in developing countries.

Inspired by IEEE’s 125th Anniversary being celebrated in 2009, The Humanitarian Technology Fund will support ventures designed to address areas such as power distribution, communications, health services and disaster relief. Both IEEE units and outside organizations may apply for grants.

The fund, reflecting the IEEE core purpose to foster technological innovation and excellence for the benefit of humanity, was created from donations made by IEEE Foundation President and former IEEE President Richard (Dick) J. Gowen along with John R. Vig, 2009 IEEE President, and Lewis M. Terman, IEEE Past President.
