In accordance with the charter of the IEEE Ad Hoc Committee on Continuous Improvement, the committee is working to generate ideas aimed at creating an efficient and highly effective organization with a balanced governance structure.

The committee has held several productive teleconferences and has drafted a list of items for potential improvement. As a second step in the process, the committee identified which items it would focus on, which items are already being worked on by other groups and will require monitoring, and which items will be focused on in the future, time permitting.

At the June Board Meeting, Committee Chair Jim Jefferies provided an overview of the proposed items of focus, including potential impact, a high-level overview of potential next steps, and a tentative timeline for future efforts.

The proposed direction was supported by the IEEE Board of Directors, and the IEEE Ad Hoc Committee on Continuous Improvement will socialize these items via this web page as they continue to explore implementation.

IEEE Ad Hoc on Continuous Improvement Charter

The IEEE Ad Hoc Committee on Continuous Improvement will work on creating an efficient and highly effective organization, with a balanced governance structure, which was the leading strategic outcome from the 2015 Board retreat and supported by the 2016 Board of Directors.

The Committee will focus on creating, socializing, and presenting proposals to the leadership and IEEE Board of Directors regarding the operations and future structure of IEEE, including governance alternatives. The Committee will examine the work of and lessons learned from the 2015?2016 IEEE Ad Hoc Committee on IEEEin2030, the 2016 IEEE Ad Hoc Committee on Enterprise Board, and the Governance Committee. It will also incorporate outcomes of the 2017 Board Retreat and Syntegration where appropriate.

The IEEE Ad Hoc Committee on Continuous Improvement will use feedback mechanisms to allow input and responses from across the IEEE and external sources.

The exploration of possible collaborations with other committees/boards is encouraged, and, whenever possible can and should be reflected in any materials generated.
