The IEEE Life Members Affinity Group Achievement Award is given annually to one Life Members Affinity Group (LMAG) to recognize those substantive projects or achievements that have left an undeniable imprint on the fabric of IEEE Life members operations or the IEEE Life Members Fund.

The award will be based on the programs that took place during the period of 1 January to 31 December of the preceding year.

Below are the schedule and requirements for the award.


  • Nomination deadline: 15 April
  • Committee approval: May
  • Recipient notified: June


One award will be granted annually; however, the award need not be awarded in a given year if there are no suitable recipients.


  • All LMAGs in good standing are eligible for the award.
  • No LMAG may receive two IEEE Life Members Affinity Group Achievement Awards within three years.

Basis of selection

Award selection is based on:

  • Innovation, breadth, and type of activities
  • Quantity of volunteers and LMAG members engaged
  • Quantity of IEEE members and LMs engaged
  • Quantity and quality of LM events
  • Enduring nature of achievements and activities
  • Potential to deploy activities, programs, and ideas across all IEEE LM organizations
  • Contributions to the IEEE Life Members Fund
  • Engagement of other IEEE groups, e.g., Young Professionals, Student members, Student Branches, Sections
  • Engagement of other IEEE LMAGs
  • Public awareness and recognition generated
  • Intra-IEEE publicity generated (web, newsletters)
  • Enthusiasm of those involved
  • Engagement of industry, government, community, and other associations
  • Performance of the LMAG in respect of financial, meeting, and officer reporting

Selection committee

The recipient will be recommended by an Awards Subcommittee of the IEEE Life Members Committee (LMC) and approved by the IEEE Life Members Committee.

Award instrument

A Certificate of Recognition and a subsidy of US$2,000 for future affinity group activities are award to the winning Life Members Affinity Group. There will also be a stipend of up to US$2,000 for a representative to travel to an appropriate event to receive the award.
