TryEngineering.org

TryEngineering.org is a website that provides free pre-university-level engineering resources for educators, parents, and students. The site offers a catalog of engineering lesson plans with hands-on design challenges, resources for teaching in a virtual environment, career profiles, games, and much more.

TryEngineering lesson plans and toolkit

IEEE has developed several lesson plans to connect students ages 8-18 with the world of engineering. These hands-on lessons reinforce key engineering concepts while building students’ critical-thinking, team-building, and problem-solving skills.

Each lesson provides a hands-on design challenge using low-cost materials. All lesson plans are engineer and teacher reviewed and aligned to national education standards.

The Engineering Lesson Plan Toolkit provides a fun video and PowerPoint presentation outlining the 15 most used TryEngineering lesson plans. The toolkit helps to support teachers on using the lesson plans both virtually or in the classroom.

Volunteer STEM Portal

The Volunteer STEM Portal is for IEEE volunteers and serves as a resource for all things related to Pre-University STEM programs and activities. Here, volunteers share their STEM best practices and programs with IEEE's global community of volunteers, find inspiration from what others are doing, and utilize resources from this portal to develop or enhance their own programs.

TryEngineering Together™

TryEngineering Together is a unique eMentoring program from IEEE and Cricket Media that pairs volunteers from sponsoring companies with students in grades 3–5 to explore the wonders of STEM and encourage kids to pursue STEM careers. Designed to increase the diversity of the future STEM workforce, TryEngineering Together targets under-resourced communities, providing free STEM resources and lessons to grade 3–5 classrooms. TryEngineering Summer Institute

Designed for rising grade 8–12 students, IEEE TryEngineering Summer Institute introduces students to the exciting fields of engineering and technology. Institute experiences will help students discover their interests, develop STEM skills, build confidence, and unlock their potential for future academic and career paths in engineering. During the immersive two-week overnight program, students will gain engineering foundations, learn how engineers think, and understand how a career in engineering can make a difference in the world. Learn more.

IEEE Presidents' Scholarship

Established in 1999, the IEEE Presidents’ Scholarship recognizes a deserving student for an outstanding project that demonstrates an understanding of electrical engineering, electronics engineering, computer science, or other IEEE fields of interest. The winner is selected annually from students presenting projects at the Regeneron International Science and Engineering Fair.
