Membership in the IEEE is open to individuals who by education or experience give evidence of competence in an IEEE designated field of interest. The designated fields are, in broad terms: Engineering, Computer Science and Information Technology, Physical Sciences, Biological and Medical Sciences, Mathematics, Technical Communications, Education, Management, Law, and Policy.

About the online join process

Joining online is convenient using your credit card, and gives you immediate access to your membership benefits. We accept Visa, Master Card, Diners Club, and American Express. After joining online, you will receive an e-mail confirmation with your IEEE member number.

If you do not have a credit card, please complete the online application, but choose the Print and Mail/ Fax with payment option on the shipping page.  Please mail completed application with payment to:
