IEEE Smart Tech Metro Area Workshop series is coming to Paris 27 November 2015.

This one-day intensive workshop offers training in large-scale data management technologies and will be held at the ISEP, Issy les Moulineaux, Paris, France. Receive one day of instruction with four (4) keynotes and one (1) practical lab, plus lunch, for only £80 (US$91) before 1 November and £120 (US$135) after 1 November. Smart Tech Workshops offer parallel, all-day, and half-day track sessions that allow attendees to immerse themselves in a given technology. Below you will find the agenda and course description for each track.

Early-Bird Registration Ends 1 November

Workshop agenda

Below is the schedule for the Metro Area Workshop in Paris. The workshop will be organized into four keynote sessions in the morning, which cover the fundamental and theoretical aspects of the topics, as well as the latest technology developments and requirements. In the afternoon, two parallel lab sessions will allow participants to gain a concrete understanding of some large-scale data management tools. Click on the session title for a detailed description of what is covered, as well as the speakers for each course.

Session details

Session: Keynote 1: Introduction to Big Data Processing

Abstract:

New tendencies of real-time systems, such as social networks, sensors, cameras, or weather information, are continuously generating data. This implies that data and links between them are becoming extremely vast. Such huge quantities of data need to be analyzed, processed, as well as stored if necessary. In this talk, we will introduce recent work on Real-Time Business Intelligence that includes Big Data technologies and data stream management systems.

Speaker: Raja Chiky

Session: Keynote 2: Smart Cities

Abstract:
As world urbanization continues to grow and the total population expected to double by 2050, there exists an increased demand for intelligent, sustainable environments that reduce environmental impact and offer citizens a high quality life. A smart city brings together technology, government and society to enable a smart economy, a smart mobility, a smart environment, a smart governance, but also smart people and smart living. IEEE is seeing an opportunity to collaborate with municipalities and regions in managing this transition to urbanization. This would include raising awareness of the benefits and downsides of technology, and help guide the appropriate uses of technology. The IEEE Smart Cities Initiative will create a network of ten Core Smart Cities, hundreds of Affiliated Smart Cities and an international expert network. They will share expertise, knowledge, questions, concerns, etc, and will involve a community of municipalities or regional governance bodies, universities, industries, and local IEEE volunteers groups. Knowledge exchange will be supported by working groups, student specific work, MOOCs repository and yearly international conferences.

Session: Keynote 4: Big Data and Personal Data Protection

Abstract:
This keynote aims to be an introduction to the principles of personal data protection. We will try to address questions such as:

What is implied by the deployment of personal data storage and analysis in a big data context ?
How to handle related risks and duties ?

Speaker: Anne Barbier Goliro

Headshot of Philippe GautierPhilippe Gautier

Philippe Gautier leads Business2Any, a consulting services company specialized in distributed artificial intelligence (DAI) systems. This company, a historical reference in Internet of Things with over 20 years of cumulative experience, was the first to introduce the CyberObject concept, now taken over by numerous opinion leaders in this domain. P. Gautier has a long experience in information systems management, which allowed him to be the first in Europe to deploy EPGCGlobal standardized solutions for B2B IoT. He obtained several awards throughout his career in 2005 (GS1 de l’innovation), 2006 (Le Monde Informatique PME), and in 2007 Lauréat PME and Jury Special Price from 01 Informatique. He is one of the rare specialists of the B-ADSC and author of numerous articles in press and scientific materials. Moreover, P. Gautier regularly takes part in conferences, meetings, interviews and radio shows; he is the owner of the “Internet of Things” LinkedIn group (> 45.000 members).
