IEEE ResumeLab Helps Prepare You to Find Jobs
resumelab If you're looking for a job these days, you know how competitive finding one can be. To help you make a great first impression, IEEE ResumeLab, an online program that helps you with the many tasks needed for landing a job, can help. This includes writing better resumes and cover letters, creating a portfolio or a video resume, and improving your interviewing skills. IEEE ResumeLab is free to all IEEE members.

Some key tools include:
  • Create New Resume allows you to upload a previously written resume or create a new one.
  • Portfolio helps compile a list of past projects that showcase what you've done in your career.
  • Letters suggests wording for cover letters, responses to employer inquiries, and thank you notes.
  • Skills Assessment lists your skills such as critical thinking, complex problem solving, management experience, and systems analysis—by choosing from a checklist.
  • Interview Coaching prepares you to speak with a potential employer by offering responses to common interview questions. Practice and review your responses by recording them using your computer's microphone and Web cam.
  • Web presence helps create your own custom profile page with “Website,” a tool that comes with different design templates and colors. Post your resume, your portfolio, a cover letter, and even links to social media accounts. Share the URL with anyone you wish, including would-be employers and mentors.
In a recent survey of IEEE members about the most useful benefits, more than half the respondents chose assistance with resumes and interviewing. IEEE ResumeLab is a valuable resource, especially among students, recent graduates, and members who are unemployed.

Building a Moral Robot - IEEE Spectrum Report Building a Moral Robot - IEEE Spectrum Report
If robots are going to become a vital part of everyday life, it's important that they know the difference between right and wrong when it comes to decison making. As IEEE Spectrum's Kristen Clark reports, that’s why a team of researchers is attempting to model moral reasoning in a robot.
Robot Stingrays Powered by Rat Muscle Cells Robot Stingrays Powered by Rat Muscle Cells
Robots have advanced an enormous amount over the past few years, but they're nowhere close to the efficiency and capability of animals. As Celia Gorman and Evan Ackerman report in this IEEE Spectrum video, one way to avoid playing catch-up is to simply steal everything you can from animals as directly as possible. That's exactly what Sung-Jin Park and Professor Kevin Kit Parker at the Wyss Institute for Biologically Inspired Engineering at Harvard did. Their fully controllable robotic ray is powered by a gold skeleton and light-activated rat muscle cells.
