IEEE affinity groups are non-technical subunits of one or more Sections or a Council. An affinity group is a local unit of an IEEE organizational unit or standing committee, established by petition to the parent organizational unit, to fulfill the purposes of IEEE.

Types of affinity groups

The following have been approved by the Member and Geographic Activities (MGA) Board as parent organizational units.

To form an affinity group in your Section or Council, a petition must be signed and submitted. The affinity group petition form and requirements can be found on the IEEE Geographic Unit Formation Policies and Petitions page.

After a group is formed, annual reporting requirements must be met to maintain viability.
