The IEEE European Public Policy Initiative (EPPI) aims at expanding the dialogue between the European engineering community and European public authorities to enable technologists to more easily share their expertise and concerns and to enable European Union (EU) institutions and other policy stakeholders to more easily obtain technologists’ input in matters relating to IEEE’s fields of interest. For more information on IEEE fields of interest, please consult the IEEE entry in the European Transparency Register.

The IEEE European Public Policy Initiative brings together tech experts and government officials. Read more on the initiative.

EPPI structure

Currently, the IEEE EPPI convenes two working groups, one on Information and Communication Technologies (ICT) and one on Energy. Both groups are composed of IEEE volunteers from the EU and EFTA countries, with expertise in these technical fields. The groups meet virtually every month and convene in person several times a year. The primary task of the working groups is to engage on topics on the EU policy agenda where it can provide value by sharing a technologist perspective through papers, meetings, or other channels.

Energy

The energy sector represents one of the key areas of involvement for the EU. The creation of an internal, integrated, and solid energy market is crucial to tackling key challenges such as creating affordable energy prices for the EU citizens, the security of energy supply, and the transition to a low-carbon economy.
